White-Collar Crime Lawyer Embezzled $10m From Clients; Pleaded Guilty
A white-collar crime defense lawyer in New York City pleaded guilty this week to charges of embezzlement.
Douglas Arntsen, 34, is a former attorney at Crowell & Moring who started to work there in February 2007. He began to pluck funds from his firm’s clients two years later.
Prosecutors say he blew the money at fine restaurants, sporting events and exotic dance venues.
When he was confronted about his misdeeds in September 2011, Arntsen confessed before resigning from his job and catching a flight to Hong Kong. He was eventually arrested and brought back to the U.S.
