Man Sentenced for 2010 Hate Crime Conviction
A man from New York state was sentenced on Friday for a hate crime that he committed in 2010.
Brian J. Karris, 36, has to serve 10 years in prison. In 2010 he was found guilty of beating Joseph King in the face and stomping on his head. Suffolk County’s district attorney said the defendant attacked the victim because King is black and suffers from a mental disability. Karris claimed that he is not a bigot, but prosecutors were able to determine that he has a history of assaulting others.
