Man Pulled on Infant Son’s Leg Until It Popped
A judge set bail at $100,000 for a Chicago man who is accused of abusing his 4-month-old son.
Manual A. Lopez, 20, was charged on Sunday with two counts of felony aggravated battery to a child.
Lopez brought the infant to a local hospital on Saturday morning. The clinical staff alerted police when they found suspicious injuries on the boy.
The defendant told authorities that he pulled on the baby’s leg when it refused to stop crying. Lopez said that he heard a “popping noise.” When the baby cried even louder, he grabbed its foot and twisted it until he heard another pop.
Lopez explained that the pulling was a disciplinary technique, and that he had done so at least four times within the past month.
