Houston Man Wins $3M for Wrongful 17-Year Imprisonment
A Houston man who was wrongfully convicted and imprisoned for 17 years has won a $3 million settlement.
George Rodriguez was found guilty in 1987 on charges of kidnapping and rape of a 14-year-old girl. DNA tests that were performed years later showed that the initial evidence was “misinterpreted.”
In 2009 Rodriguez sued Houston for $5 million. The city successfully appealed the court’s decision and was ordered to pay him $3 million.
Houston mayor Annise Parker scheduled a press conference on Friday to issue a public apology to Rodriguez.
