Three Suspects Accused of Posing As Police

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

260xStoryPolice are on the lookout for three criminal suspects who are accused of posing as officers of the law and then robbing and assaulting a business owner. The three men claimed they needed to speak with the victim and then marched him to a gray car. After he entered the vehicle, the criminals pulled their guns on the man and told him they were not, in fact, police officers. They took him to his business and forced him to open the front door. When the shop’s alarm went off, the man tried to escape, but the robbers caught him, assaulted him and stole his personal possessions.

Houston criminal attorneys say that if the men are caught, they will be facing some very serious felony charges, including falsely impersonating an officer of the law, robbery, aggravated assault, and more.

Rocky Houston’s Attorney Claims New Trial Means Double Jeopardy

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

cliff1066Rocky Houston was accused of murdering Roane County Deputy Bill Jones and his ride-along friend Mike Brown in a shootout. His brother was also brought up on charges, but was acquitted. In Houston’s trial though, the judge made an error in providing instructions to the jury, which may result in a need for an entirely new trial.

The jurors acquitted Houston of eight charges, but left the rest of their juror’s forms blank, following the directions provided by the judge. Houston’s Houston criminal attorney claims that forcing him to face a new trial after the judge made a mistake constitutes double jeopardy against his client. The judge has not yet ruled on whether to call for a new trial or not.
